KGFM is a very popular radio station that is actually licensed in Bakersfield, California, USA. Present on 101.5 FM, American General Media own the station, and the license is held by AGM California.
KGFM has gone through many format changes since it began airing. KGFM initially played ‘beautiful music/easy listening’ sounds. But this resulted in only the older generation tuning in, and the younger listeners would not have anything to do with this station. As a result, KGFM generated less and less revenue. Finally, in 1992, KGFM abandoned this format and came up with something new, to lure in the younger listeners. In 2007, the format of the station again changed. It went in to the ‘Adult Hits’ format. In this format, songs both old and new are played. On the weekends, the station played oldies’ songs, while during the rest of the week, more modern songs were played. This helps the station appeal to both the older as well as the younger listeners.
KGFM station plays many songs throughout the day. In fact, there are two sections of programming. One consists of the morning sessions and another, the weeknight’s section. The morning section is handled by a brother and sister. Their segment of the show is called “Rachel and Dustin in the Morning”. The weeknight’s section is run by a radio personality called Delilah. The segment itself is called “Delilah”. This show is named after an eminent radio personality called Delilah Rene. She is a very notable radio personality, songwriter, and even an author. The format of her show is simple. Listeners tuning in on her show call her up, and tell her their situation. Depending on this, Delilah plays a song that corresponds to the caller’s tale. KGFM is one of the most popular soft rock radio stations available today.
